Another of those noble edifices devoted to the alleviation of the suffering, for which New York is acquiring a proud pre-eminence, was inaugurated with appropriate ceremonies on Friday last. The building in question has been erected for the New York Eye Infirmary, at an expense of some forty thousand dollars, and, though small, it is admirably arranged, and is furnished with every appliance for carrying out the charitable work for which it is designed. The institution was commenced in 1820, and its statistics show that from two to three thousand persons have been yearly cured of diseases of the eye, at the nominal expense of only fifteen hundred dollars per annum, thanks to the gratuitous services of the professional gentlemen attached to the institution.
