AGRICULTURE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD
WAS REVOLUTIONIZED BY A COUNTRY BOY
FROM VIRGINIA
Cyrus Hall McCormick, the son
of a western Virginia farmer, revolutionized agriculture throughout the
world by his invention of the reaper,
which is said to have made America
the granary of the Old World. It is
one of the ironies of history that Mc-
Cormick, a native of a Slave State,
should give the Free States of the
West an industrial weapon which in
the war of '61 outbalanced the Negro
labor of the South.
