Joe and Eddie In Debut For Capitol
The debut of Joe and Eddie, a vocal duo comprised of two, Negro youths from Berkeley, Calif. on Capitol single records was announced by the company this month. The label also released the debut single disk by Donna Hightower, a new Capitol songstress whose first album, "Take One!" was released in January. On the same release, for the week of Feb. 23, is Richard Cannon.
Joe and Eddie have taken a pair of old folk tunes "The Fox" and "Lonesome Road" and dressed them up in an exciting new style. The lads maintain a breakneck pace on both sides and turn in a highly polished performance.
In coming to Capitol Donna Hightower joins a distinguished roster of Negro artists such as Nat "King Cole" Dakota Staton Jackie Davis, and more than a dozen others. On her first single, Donna shakes the dust off the rafters with a hand-clapping, toe-tapping rendition of Ain't It Love. R svinging tune belted out in grand fashion. On the back side, Donna slows the pace with a fine performance of the mournful ballad "Forgive Them".
On his second Capitol recording, Richard Cannon - a featured singer in Ben Blue's Santa Monica, Calif. night club - delivers a powerful rendition of "You'll Never Walk Alone". Cannon has a big rich voice which he fully utilizes on this great standard. On the flip side, Richard switches to a bouncy beat on Tonight I'm a King.
