FIRST CABLE FROM JUNEAU
Al-Ki Reported Leaving There Last Night.
Lakme Anchored 500 Feet From Shore Awaiting High Tide.

The cable ship Lakme reached Juneau at 5 o'clock last night and anchored 500 feet from shore waiting high tide to connect the cable with the office.

The first message pertaining to matters other than official to be sent over the wire was received at 6 last evening, and is as follows:

"Alki just passed bound in to Juneau."

The cable ship was then two miles from shore.

At 5 o'clock last night the Alki left Juneau and should arrive here early this morning.

The total length of cable laid is 11 miles, 1500 feet further than was at first figured on, and four hours was taken up yesterday making the splice.
