Wm. G. McCarty, Esq., of this city, returned from Chicago yesterday, and adds his testimony to that of the many others of our citizens who have visited that city during the fall, which is that Chicago is doing more business in one day than St. Louis does in a month. And it is a fact against which it is folly to shut our eyes, especially in the matter of building our Southwestern Railroad. We have been talking about the matter of this road for a long time, and hesitating whether we ought to go to Chicago or St. Louis, for co-operation in the enterprise. It would seem to be worse than folly to hesitate longer. All the while we are hesitating other portions of the State are pushing forward and securing communication with that great mart, until now the business of all the great North West, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, North Missouri, Kansas and Texas, is done there. Let us have done with this supine waiting for St. Louis until we are as lethargic as that city is proverbial for being. Let us organize and push ahead, and we will find when we come to the scratch as men should who mean business, that Chicago "get up and git" will strike hands with us.
