Please to insert the following paragraph in a letter from a gentleman who was in the expedition, to his friend in this City.
A French fleet consisting of the Experiment of 60 guns, the Vigilant of 52 and Felicity of 32, and four brigs with heavy 12 pounders and furnaces for heating the shot and well manned—Took on their passage several Liverpool men, and destroyed on the Coast of Guinea the Factory on the Isle de Los, then proceeded to the New settlement of Sierra Leone which was completely destroyed and laid in ashes tho' defended by three batteries consisting of 36 guns 12 and 9 pounders and defended by 1400 men, mostly Blacks, burnt all the ships in harbour and took several coming in. After this three of the vessels proceeded up the river and destroyed Bance Island, a Factory mounting 30 guns and of great consequence, with a large amount of property &c. This is but a prelude to greater feats which you shall shortly have from yours.
