Truman Requests Resignation RFC Head Symington

WASHINGTON, (AP) - Stuart Symington, an ace pinch-hitter for the Truman administration for six years, will bow out in a few weeks as head of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation, probably taking a sizable slice of top RFC officials with him.

President Truman told his news conference Thursday he expects to accept a resignation from Symington later this month. Symington is planning to return to private business.

Symington and his housecleaning crew took over the big government lending agency last May when it was a storm center. A Senate subcommittee had charged the RFC to yielding to a political influence ring with White House contacts.

Symington was out of town and not available for comment, but his close associates made it clear the abruptness of Mr. Truman's announcement took them by surprise.
