Full Text

They write from Versailles, that they are going to enlarge and beautify that Town with several new spacious Streets, and to build a noble Square in the Place where the great Pond, or rather little Lake, was, which is now quite fill'd up: The King has also appointed 12 Squadrons of Horse Guard, for the Security of that Royal Residence, during the Night-time. We must here inform our Readers, that the Guards are but the Night-Watch; tho' very different from ours. In Paris, they are divided into Horse and Foot, accoutred, arm'd, and cloath'd like regular Troops; they are also subdivided into Squadrons and Brigades, with proper Officers to head them; they keep little Guards at convenient Distances from each other, patrol every Hour, and are infinitely more serviceable and honest, than the Watchmen of London, who are half Rogues.
