A Line On Politics In The Church. Ambassador.
The Recorder speaking of the Southern Baptist Convention soon to meet in Chattanooga says there is not a cloud in our denomination sky, and that everything betokens a peaceful and harmonious session.
There is only one cloud that we discern and that is politics. The wild men are ready to leap up at the first chance to plunge the convention in trouble and turmoil. If these men can only be muzzled the convention will be a great and harmonious one.
The Methodist and Baptists are already spoken of as the most belligerent bodies in the world.
We hope President Truett will silence the first man who mentions Al Smith's name. The convention is not the place to nominate a president or throw a straw in his way.
