Full Text
It is with pleasure we remark that the anti-embargo resolutions of Mr Wheaton were opposed in the senate by the Hon. WILLIAM GRAY, of Salem, and the Hon. Wm. King of Bath: and in the House by Messrs. Benjamin Crowningshield, of Salem, and Abiel Wood, of Wiscasset, inasmuch as it has been suggested that these four gentlemen own more tons of shipping than all the Boston host, and their federal adherents in both branches of the Legislature. We believe the capital employed by the former gentleman, in trade and navigation, considerably exceeds all that of the Boston seat. Messrs. Phillips, Brooks, Parker & Head are capitalists, but they generally employ their money in other channels than navigation.
