For Variety Show
The USO presented a Variety Show Saturday evening May 22, to a very live and enthusiastic audience. Mike Hodges from WVCQ radio station did a fine job as master of ceremonies.
Featured in the show were Deacon Bates, Hank English and Rocky Elliot opening with "Steel Guitar Rag" by the Hill-Billy Trio.
A Boogie dance number was presented by four of Mrs. C.C. Fox's dance class; Dee Ann Fox, Cheryle Hayes, Paulette Hayes, and Varya Anderson.
These little girls performed like professionals.
Miss Barbara Tegstrom gave a fine interpretation in her solo "Embraceable You", followed by Mrs. C.C. Fox doing a "Solo Spanish Tango" wearing a Spanish costume. Jerry Bell and Barbara Tegstrom really swooned the audience with their vocal duet of "I'll See You In My Dreams".
Rocky Elliott and Mrs. Jane Bayer in their dance did a fine interpretation of Harlem Nocturne.
Hank English really brought the west to Kodiak with his rendition of western numbers.
Jerry Bell's solo "Maybe You'll Be There" was much enjoyed by all. The show was brought to a close when Gertrude Selig sang "Secret Love". The show was so well received that plans will be made for another in late June.
