We most cordially agree with the Federal Republican, (says the Enquirer) that the thanks of Congress ought to be presented to William Willshire, the generous English merchant of Mogadore, who paid the ransom of captain Riley, bound up his wounds, took him in his house, and treated him like a brother.— Thanks! Such a noble act ought to be embalmed by the feelings of the American nation ; and a medal ought to be voted him inscribed by "American Gratitude to the humanity of Willshire." Let us show that we know how to reward as well as to punish ; that we have hearts to thank the benefactors of our countrymen, as well as hands to chastise their oppressors.
Why, let us ask, has not Congress already voted a medal to the humane M'Grath, who attended our countrymen in the prison at Dartmoor; who poured balm into the wounds of such of our seamen as escaped the massacre ; and administered to them every consolation which it was in his power to bestow ? He ought long since to have received the thanks of the nation ; but it is not too late to repair the omission.
