The Scranton Child Care Center, part of the program for caring for children whose mothers are working in war industry, opened at the Scranton School, Orchard and Scranton streets, Wednesday. It is the first center of its kind in the United States to be established with Federal Funds under the Lanham Act.
The center which opened its after-school program for children of women war workers who attend school, has been set up by the New Haven Board of Education with Federal funds. The board has appointed Dr. F. E. Engleman, President of New Haven Teachers' College, as its agent in charge of the program. Miss Lois J. King, is in charge of the after-school program. The nursery school unit of the center will open in the near future at 63 Dwight Street, it was announced.
