POETRY.

A SPANISH GUITAR SONG.

Good night,
Good night to thee, dearest and best,
I come but to kindle one spark in thy breast,

Forget not the fond one whose heart for thee glows,
You know but too well that this bosom of mine
Can sigh for thee only, and long to be thine:
But once more good night to thee, dearest and best,
And forget not thy fond one when sinking to rest.

Thy vows all sincere and recorded on high,
I fondly imagined, in moments of love,
But dare not believe that you constant can prove,
Or remain as unchanging and faithful as I.
Two years for thee only this faithful heart beating
Has cherished one hope thine ever to be;
But, dearest, good night, the moments are fleeting,
Oh, let me be never forgotten by thee.

And now I am going to dreams and repose.
