Extract of a letter from a gentleman in Tennessee, dated August 11, 1800

"A severe battle has lately been fought between the Ottawas and Chippewas, through mistake; those two tribes, having agreed to join their forces in a war contemplated against the Chickasaws were forming a junction in the night; the two armies, each mistaking the other for the enemy (Chickasaws) a bloody battle ensued, which lasted a considerable time, until by their different languages they discovered their mistake. The wounded are taken to Fort Massac, near which place the battle was fought."
