Argus Fiummery
The scurrility and personal allusions in the late numbers of the Argus, will pass with little notice. At present, other subjects, interesting to the Public, require our attention.
It is really laughable to see the "Jail-Bird," who caters for the Argus, prate about others deserting the banners of "General Truth!" Was General Truth the jail-bird's guide, when he libelled his friend & patron, Bartlett? Was his conscience under the control of General Truth, or General Hypocrisy, when he was called upon by those who in principle, as well as profession, are under the guidance of truth and sincerity, to know if he was concerned in the publication of the lies and falsehoods contained in the Argus, where he declared, that he had nothing to do with the paper? We recommend to him to read in his bible, the account Ananias and Sapphira gave of their disposing of their property, and learn the fate of hypocrites!
As to the publications in the Gazette, respecting the situation of "Americans in France," they are from the persons themselves who are unjustly and cruelly detained in French prisons. The servile tools & partizans of Bonaparte, in the United States, who stile themselves Americans, but who would sell their country to the tyrant of France, will still advocate the slavish doctrine, that the rulers of that country can do no wrong. Hypocrites in religion, will always be Anarchist in politics. If General Arm strong has no better proof for his character and conduct than the Argus can furnish, he will soon be beneath the public notice.
