Washington High Students Have Busy Week

Teachers and students at Booker T. Washington high school have been most active during the past week. With the coming of Juanita Jackson, NAACP worker and organizer of the Youth Movement which links up with a large group of students under the direction of Prof. R. E. Brown and Joel Marshall, president, ably assisted by other members as Professor John Long and Miss Laura Duffy, secretary in the office of the Atlanta Branch, there has been much to do.

The concert which was staged at Big Bethel AME Church under the auspices of Washington high school, Professor C. L. Harper principal, was a success—as all Etta Moten concerts are. The large number of students from all schools in the city and adjoining cities as far away as Athens, Ga., had a chance to see a radio, stage and screen star place dignity and honor into the songs which they hear daily with such a severe criticism from persons who do not stop to consider the people the times and the conditions of the age.

Miss Moten deported herself as all artists the school brings to the thousands of students and music lovers each year. Her songs, her personality and her versatility were lessons to all who saw and heard her. The students who are interested in dramatic art were greatly inspired and impressed with her.

Her visit to Morris Brown school she loves ("Because it is our school." she said) and the places of interest in the city made her stay more pleasant.

The luncheon in her honor, the breakfasts and all kept before her that "Atlanta has its hospitality"

Hundreds of baskets were prepared for the needy during Wednesday morning and even late Wednesday night, students and teachers were delivering the many useful things to those less fortunate. Many charitable institutions were included—in fact, all of them.

In spite of the many activities, the highest grade of work has been done at the school.
