Saturday afternoon arrived at Sandy-Bay four shallops, with fifty French persons on board, viz. men, women and children, six shallops more are hourly expected: Their account of themselves is, that St. Peters was taken by the English some months since, and that the inhabitants were permitted to remain there till within a few weeks, when they were obliged to desert the place; that they accordingly betook themselves to their small vessels with their families, in much want and distress, and are on their way to the French Consul at Boston:—
The inhabitants of Sandy-Bay discovered on this occasion their disposition to alleviate the distresses of others, by affording shelter in their own houses to many of these unfortunate sufferers, and liberally contributing to the supply of their wants.
