Full Text

Extract of a letter from the Havanna to a gentleman in Richmond, dated 9th February, 1809.

"News has been received from Spain to the 7th December and even to later dates.-- It appears that our government has not thought proper to give them publicity.

"When I consider that our authorities belong to Old Spain, and are attached to it by the ties of relationship and fortune, that this city is inhabited by a great number of Biscayans and Catalonians, who, though not so great lords, have the same interest, I am persuaded that this colony will not be separated from the mother country—besides all the inhabitants of the interior, being determined to wait for the event of the great struggle."
