THE RAIN STORMS.
No Harm to Crops, but Some Delay of Harvest Work-Full Reports From the Sioux City Lines, Generally Favorable-Harvest About Over in That Region-A Limited Section Losing Grain Because of Lack of Harvest Hands.
So far as could be ascertained yesterday, the rains of Sunday evening and night and yesterday morning did not extend into the northern or western part of the state and where they did occur would not have done much harm. Yesterday there were clouds over a large part of the State, but cool, drying breezes prevailed. Elsewhere in the state it was clear and warm, with light breezes. Full reports were received by Superintendent Winter from the St. Paul & Sioux City road and branches as follows:
Hamilton-Had some rain. Farmers say it done more good than harm, everything was before so dry.
Shakopee-Had a heavy rain with high wind last night. Have not heard how much, if any, damage was done.
Merriam Junction-Clear and pleasant. Heavy rain last night, but grain was nearly all in shock.
Jordan-Two more good days will complete stacking wheat in this vicinity, Heavy thunder and lightning last night but little rain.
Belle Plaine-A heavy shower of wind and rain passed over here about 11 o'clock last night. Many stacks were open Saturday night but cannot state their condition last night.
Blakeley-Heavy rain during night. Grain in this vicinity was mostly in shock.
East Henderson-Heavy rain last night. No damage.
Le Sueur-Harvest through and threshing commenced. No damage by rain last night.
Ottawa-Cutting about done and stacking and threshing going on. Will be able to give you the yield in a day or so.
St. Peter-Light rain last night but not enough to hinder harvesting this morning. Harvesting has nearly closed around this vicinity. Some have begun threshing.
Kasota-A little rain last night; will delay stacking for to-day.
Mankato-Weather fine but threatened rain last night. Farmers working yesterday, taking care of grain.
Lake Crystal This week will finish cutting and nearly stack all the grain in this vicinity, if the weather continues favorable.
Garden City-Have now reached the end of harvesting and in very good shape. Weather clear. dry and warm.
Vernon Centre-Grain is cut, farmers threshing. Some will thresh right away. Weather cool,
Amboy-Harvesting about finished. It is universally claimed this season's crop surpasses last year's. A large quantity of No. 1 wheat will be marketed this fall.
Winnebago City-Harvest about completed and in excellent shape. finished
Blue Earth City-Harvesting nearly finished. If good weather continues will nearly finish stacking this week.
Madella-Cutting nearly done; stacking well under way. Some will thresh from shocks this week.
St. James-Clear and mild; very hot yesterday. Harvesting will be nearly over this week. No stacking yet.
Mountain Lake-Harvesting going on nicely.
Windom-Considerable wheat and oats will fall down before it can be cut.
Heron Lake-Harvesting progressing fast; will finish in three or four days.
Dundee-All harvested in good shape.
Avoca-Field of grain light. Flax will yield middling well. Hadiey-Harvest will be completed in three or four days,
Woodstock-Harvest booming.
Hersey-Harvest will be completed in three or four days.
Worthington and Sibley-Harvest progressing finely.
Sheldon-Harvest about over. All kinds of grain in fine condition. Wheat will grade No. 1 and 2, about 20 bushels on an average. Flax that is threshed goes 14, of good quality. Oats 30 to 40 bushels per acre.
Hospers-Wheat will not average over 10 bushels per acre, but is of good quality. Other grains yield big.
East Orange-Farmers busy stacking.
Le Mars-Harvesting about over. Farmers have stacking pretty well done.
Sioux City-Harvest nearly completed.
Adrian-Harvest rushing; about three-quarters done. Scarcity of help.
Lu Verne-Harvest in full blast.
Rock Rapids, Doon and Beaver Creek-Harvest rushing. Wheat going down in some places for want of harvest hands.
Valley Springs-Harvest in full blast. Wheat twinkling bad.
Brandon-Uncut wheat very ripe and going down. Scarcity of help.
Sioux Falls-Harvest progressing finely. Grain nearly all cut.
