Letters were received in this city yesterday, which state that the steam boat America, from St. Louis, proceeding to New Orleans, struck on a snag about 150 miles below the Ohio River, and sunk. She had in a very valuable cargo of Furs, belonging principally to the American Fur Company, and collected by the persons under the command of Gen. Ashley. A letter received at St. Louis says, one half of the cargo has been landed and the balance will probably be saved. About fifty thousand dollars of the cargo is insured in this city.—N. Y. Daily Adv.
