The county unit amendment to the Georgia Constitution will get the top spot on the general elections ballot to be presented the voters in November.
It will top the list of amendments - eight of them state-wide - to be voted on. The No. 2 spot will be held by the gas tax amendment which would specify that gas and fuel oil tax go to road building.
Both amendments are prime work of Governor Herman Talmadge.
In a recent speech, Governor Talmadge defended the county unit system by branding as a fallacy the argument that a vote in one county is worth less than a vote in another under the system.
