Rice Farmers May Lose Heavily.

According to a statement published recently by the New Orleans bureau of crop estimates of the United States Department of Agriculture, Louisiana farmers raised 20 per cent more rice this year than in 1919, yet they stand to lose as much as their present crop will bring on the market, for the cereal is quoted at only half as much as that of last year. This state raised a crop valued at $53,420,000 last year. This year's crop, 20 per cent greater than that of last year, will bring only $27,720,000 or approximately half. On Dec. 1, 1919, rice was selling at 2.71 per bushel. At the same time in 1920 it brought only 1.10 a bushel. Last year's crop was 19,712,000 bushels, while this year it amounted to 25,200,000 bushels.
