On Wednesday the 3d inst. being the anniversary of the Schenectady academy, the students and scholars were examined, in presence of the gentlemen trustees, and a very polite and respectable audience, when such specimens were given of their several improvements, as to merit the approbation of all present, and afford the most flattering prospect of the future utility of this infant seminary. The whole business was conducted with such order and decorum, as evidenced the much approved assiduity of the gentlemen teachers. After the necessary business was transacted, the trustees proceeded to adjudge the academical prizes to the following, viz. First scholar in academy, Andrew Yates—Horace class, to draw for prize—1st best in Caesar class, Glen Cuyler—2d prize in ditto, to be drawn for by the remaining part of the class—1st best speaker, John B. Romeyn, 2d best, Wm. Teller—1st best writer, Simon Glen, 2d best, Bastiaan Tymele—for application and commendable deportment, Daniel Martin, English grammar and reading—the Monitor class to be divided, and each division to draw for prize. The trustees declared upon the occasion, that they were exceedingly sorry that they had it not in their power to make their bounty of merit coextensive with the number of meritorious characters.
