Indiana Legislature.—How sadly the efforts of the loyal people of Indiana in behalf of the Government during the war were crippled by the Democrats in the Legislature, which at its last session was equally divided, our readers need not be informed. Through the efforts of Governor Morton, however, the designs of the Rebel sympathizers were defeated, and the State did its full share in suppressing the rebellion.

Now, however, the loyal people have reformed the Legislature, and instead of a tie, as it was one time, or a majority against us, as it was at another, it is overwhelmingly Union. It stands about as follows:

Senate...32 Union. 18 Dem.
House...56 18
Total...94 54
Majority on joint ballot...40

This is the severest blow the Democratic party received in Indiana at the late election. Nothing they feared more; and, consequently, nothing they labored harder to prevent than a Union majority in the Legislature.

Governor Morton will be elected United States Senator in place of Hon. Henry S. Lane, who declines re-election. The Democrats would rather see any other man than Governor Morton elected; but this only proves, what every loyal man in the nation rejoices to know, that he is the man for the position

As the Legislature is elected for two years, it will also probably elect a successor to Senator Hendricks, whose term of office expires in 1869.—Cincinnati Gazette, Oct. 12.
