Now, however, the loyal people have reformed the Legislature, and instead of a tie, as it was one time, or a majority against us, as it was at another, it is overwhelmingly Union. It stands about as follows:
Senate...32 Union. 18 Dem.
House...56 18
Total...94 54
Majority on joint ballot...40
This is the severest blow the Democratic party received in Indiana at the late election. Nothing they feared more; and, consequently, nothing they labored harder to prevent than a Union majority in the Legislature.
Governor Morton will be elected United States Senator in place of Hon. Henry S. Lane, who declines re-election. The Democrats would rather see any other man than Governor Morton elected; but this only proves, what every loyal man in the nation rejoices to know, that he is the man for the position
As the Legislature is elected for two years, it will also probably elect a successor to Senator Hendricks, whose term of office expires in 1869.—Cincinnati Gazette, Oct. 12.

The Democratic party received a severe blow with the Union majority. The Legislature, elected for two years, will elect Governor Morton as US Senator in place of Hon. Henry S. Lane, who declines re-election, and a successor to Senator Hendricks whose term expires in 1869.
