MANY FIRE ALARMS.
New York Department Responded to 143 July 4.
New York, July 6.—An echo of the Fourth of July celebration is found in the record of 143 fire alarms in this city to which the firemen responded.
Eight of these alarms were turned in at one time and it so happened that one engine company, in Harlem, was scheduled to respond to each of the eight.
At the first two it reached the engine's services were not required. It remained at the third place to extinguish a blaze in a store, and the five other alarms were compelled to worry along without the assistance of the overworked engine company.
