British Steamer Loaded With Contraband Has a Lively Experience.

Portland, Me., May 28.- Capt. Martyn, of the British steamer Europa, who has just arrived here from Licata, Sicily, reports that as he was leaving the Mediterranean he was chased by a Spanish torpedo boat, but as there was a heavy sea on, in which the Spaniard labored hard, the Europa escaped. She brought 2,500 tons of sulphur, which is contraband. On the day after she eluded the first vessel she was chased again by another Spanish torpedo boat, with the same result. No shots were fired during either chase.
