On Tuesday one Captain Fagg arrived here from Boston, by land, and said he had been cast away on the coast of France, from whence he went to London, and took passage in a vessel which left London the first of January—and arrived in Boston yesterday se'nnight. He reported that war was certainly to be declared the Thursday after he left London: that the Royal Family had bought up ten of the finest merchant ships in the river Thames to turn into privateers, and send into the South Sea, with a number of other traveller like stories. The next morning he pushed over our western ferries in the first boats, soon after which he was pursued by a sheriff from this town, overtaken at South Kingston, and the next day brought back and confined in our jail, on suspicion of his having embezzled a vessel and cargo, which he carried from New York some time past, bound to Liverpool.
