April 26. A Fire broke out at the fine Seat of Peter Shackerley, at Whittington, near Wrexham, in the County of Denbigh, which consumed all the fine Household Goods, Pictures, &c. valued at 12,000l. Mr. Shackerley, his Lady and Children got out at a one Pair of Stairs Window, by the Assistance of a Ladder. The Cook was burnt to Death; the Housekeeper killed, by jumping out of a Window; and several of the other Servants, who jumped out of the Windows to save their Lives, had their Limbs broke, and were otherwise much bruised in such a manner, that their Lives were despaired of.
