The La Motte.—Having heard it frequently spoken of, we yesterday made a visit to the La Motte claim by clambering up, through deep mud, to the head of Crown Point Ravine. From inquiry and personal observation we glean the following facts:
The La Motte was located on the 14th of March, 1863, and has been ever since worked by means of a tunnel, which is now one hundred and twenty-five feet in length. The company long since struck its ledge and are now cutting in and upon it. It is about sixteen feet wide. The tunnel will be extended under the hill thirty feet further, when a shaft will be sunk directly therefrom on the ledge. Excellent rock is being taken out so excellent that it will pay well for crushing; and a mill-owner, we understand, has offered to purchase the rock on the ground, paying a handsome sum therefor. The claim embraces 1,200 feet, and is daily becoming more popular and valuable.
