Full Text

THE NEXT PRESIDENT.

It may now be considered as fixed, that Gen. Jackson is to be a candidate for re-election. We infer this from the fact, that he renews his recommendation of a constitutional provision, rendering the President ineligible for more than one term, and urges reasons why he ought not to be allowed to be a candidate for re-election. In ordinary cases this would be considered in no other light than a withdrawing of himself from the approaching contest. But, as his practice has been so uniformly the reverse of his profession, the proper construction to be put upon it, is, an annunciation of his being a candidate for re-election.
