MINING ESSAYS. Our miners—those who have been engaged for a number of years in the hydraulic process—ought certainly by this time to have gained a knowledge which, if published to the world, would aid others in facilitating their labors, and perhaps lead to still greater discoveries in that peculiar branch of gold washing. For instance, the use and results of the blast; the kind of ground where it is applied with the best effect; the economy it secures in labor; the dangers attending it, etc. Then, the best modes of tunneling; what kind of drill could be used to best advantage; the indications of mephitic air, and the average amount of labor performed in a given time by certain modes of working. Next, the modes adopted with greatest success for saving gold. These and many other subjects, which make up the daily experience of a miner's life, would all be interesting, if treated upon through the columns of the press; and we therefore invite our mining friends to give the public the benefit of their observations in the manner proposed. Mutual advantages would be the result.
