'HONOR ROLL' GROWING

Historians Already Have Records of 1,000 Shawnee County Heroes.

Topeka and Shawnee county are responding generously to the call of the Honor Roll, according to C. W. Myers and Dr. J. H. Close, who have charge of the work. More than 1,000 photographs of soldiers and sailors have been turned in, they say, and it is hoped that the balance will be gathered in the next ten days. It is estimated that more than 2,550 soldiers and sailors have entered the service from Shawnee county and Topeka.

The work of compiling the record of Shawnee's part in the great war is in charge of Curtis W. Myers, state chairman of the four minute men during the war, and Dr. J. H. Close, both of Topeka. They say it is remarkable how much people are interested in the work and that no one has yet refused them a photograph. On the contrary, they say, the chief worry of proud mothers and relatives is the fear that their boys might be overlooked when the historic volume is completed.

The compilation of the Honor Roll has been approved by the adjutant general, the state council of defense and other authorities, beside returned soldiers and sailors themselves. It is an official work and those in charge desire that, above all, it be complete. It is hoped that not one soldier or sailor who went from the county will be left out. The books will go into libraries and other public places. The city has been divided into twenty-five sections, in order that no stone may be left unturned in getting a photo of every soldier and twenty-five soldiers are canvassing the districts assigned to them.
