Horace Greeley Reviewed by a Republican Editor
The Coshocton (O.) Age, Republican,) of Dec. 12th, 1861, has the following merited notice of Greeley's N. Y. Tribune:
The N. Y. Tribune:--We have received several posters setting forth the great advantages to be gained in taking the N. Y. Tribune; which we respectfully decline sticking up, and further, will raise our voice in warning the people against this pernicious sheet.
It will be remembered that at the beginning of our present troubles the Tribune published a long article, favoring the recognition of the traitor's Confederacy. This article we condemned at the time. It was the Tribune that stated, and goaded on the clamor of the people, which resulted in the Bull Run fight.
The Tribune has persistently and systematically reviled the President, and Cabinet, and in opposing the government has rendered the enemy great aid and comfort. We really think its responsible editor should have been thrust into Fort Lafayette, long ago. The Tribune is a great newspaper monopoly having an immense circulation, it furnishes the papers for less than the cost of the blank paper it is printed on and makes its money out of advertisers, who pay one dollar and a quarter a line for advertisements in it. It is the greatest foe local country papers have, and in crippling them cripples the country for nothing does more for the interests of county than a prosperous country paper. If the people of our county want a New York paper, if it is good as the Tribune, for news and sustaining the government in all its acts they should subscribe for the World, or the Evening Post. The Ohio State Journal printed at Columbus; is a good paper to take or the Philadelphia Inquirer or the Press but above all things avoid and put down the N. Y. Tribune, as a disloyal, pernicious, malignant sheet. Coshocton Age-
