Romeo, Mich. - In making improvements around his home, three and one-half miles south of Romeo, Don Norton has unearthed skeletons of five Indians in the last two years.
Along with them he has found scores of arrow heads, skinning stones, bits of pottery and other Indian relics.
"As a boy about 38 years ago, I recall that 15 Indian skeletons were taken out of one place on my land when gravel was being dug," Norton tells.
All of the Indians were found sitting up, and some had holes drilled into the skull, apparently as part of the burial ceremony. Norton's place was the site of an Indian village beside a large spring.
"I know of a number of others buried here which are to be excavated by University of Michigan archeologists." Norton adds. "It's easy to pick out the burial places because of black dirt on top where fires were built over the graves."
