In a letter to Harry V. Bene, acting chairman of the Democratic central committee and presiding officer of the state convention held at Phoenix Monday. Wirt G. Bowman, national committeeman, pledged support of the entire Democratic ticket and warned against the "danger of internal dissensions".
The letter was ordered spread on the convention minutes and the delegates unanimously asked that every Democratic newspaper in the state publish it.
The letter said:
"Dear Harry-I have heard it rumored that there is talk about a new deal or progressive candidate for governor being put up by certain Democrats of the state and possibly my name has been connected with the move. In this connection I would thank you to state emphatically before the meeting Monday that, while I am not for our present primary laws, they exist, nevertheless, and I believe it is the duty of every law-abiding citizen to live up to them and to uphold them in every way. Therefore. I would not be inclined to propose any candidate against the Hon. B. B. Moeur or any other of the nominees. We had our chance in the primaries and did everything in our power and exercised all our rights and duties as citizens, but were defeated. Now I am for those nominated, from top to bottom of the ticket, and will not join any move to try to defeat them. To the contrary, I will exert myself in every possible way to elect the ticket as nominated on September 11, and I earnestly call upon all my fellow-Democrats to do likewise and forestall the danger of internal dissensions, division and disintegration of our party."
"Sincerely yours,
WIRT."
The letter was read to the convention by Bene within a moment or so after the gavel had fallen opening the session. It was greeted by wild applause.
