Crookston, Minn., Nov. 17.-News from Washington received here containing mention of the name of "Congressman Halvor Steenerson as postmaster general under President Harding's administration is of special interest to the Ninth congressional district of Minnesota, which Mr. Steenerson represents.
Mr. Steenerson's home is in Crookston and his political friends here say there are strong possibilities in favor of the congressman being given the post of postmaster general.
Mr. Steenerson is one of the ranking members of the house of representatives, having represented this district for the past eighteen years.
He has been and still is chairman of the committee on postoffices and post roads and as a member of that committee he has been in close touch with the postoffice department.
This knowledge, it is declared, would enable him to take over the duties of postmaster general with little trouble.
That his appointment would also meet with the strong approval of the department employes is assured, his friends declare.
They point out that he has long taken a recognized and effective interest in affairs pertaining to their welfare and as proof that he is backed by the employes his friends cite the action of the recent state convention of mail carriers in voting a resolution commending the work of Congressman Steenerson as chairman of the postal committee.
