SHERIFF'S FORCE RAIDS 12 PLACES HERE YESTERDAY
CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF GAMBLING EQUIPMENT WHICH WAS SLOT MACHINES IN EACH INSTANCE
Charging possession of gambling equipment, namely slot machines, 12 places were raided yesterday by officers from the sheriff's office.
The information and affidavits on which the warrants were issued were furnished by Joseph Knight and Clyde Knight, and the warrants came direct from criminal court and not from the office of the county judge or a justice of the peace.
Proprietors of the places are listed on the records as Peter A. Knight, Raul Garcia, Dutch Goehring, Herman Richardson, Vernon Spencer, Armando Gargello, Felo Rodriguez, Eddie Gomez, Frank Sosin, Romey Tynes, Frank Roberts, and Pena Morales.
When the officers arrived at the business places a search was made of the premises, but in no instance was there anything resembling a slot machine found, it was learned at the office of the sheriff today.
There was no casual search made, it was said, but a thorough investigation to determine whether or not there was such a machine to be found anywhere.
All of the alleged violators of the law relative to gambling devices appeared at the office of the sheriff yesterday afternoon and each of them was required to post a bond of $500 for their appearance at the next term of criminal court.
