According to the statement of the Nacogdoches Chronicle it seems that Gen. Sam. Houston has deserted or is about to desert the Know-Nothings:-

"In private conversation with his friends," says the Chronicle, "he gave the indication of a total want of confidence in the success of the present American party, and a total disinclination to support either the platform or the nominees. The party to which he allied himself for great and noble purposes has become the tool of selfish politicians, to whose schemes he cannot lend the sanction of his name and influence."
