Full Text
The New Aristocracy.—The slaveholders numbered about 300,000, and they became so puffed up with wealth and pride that they aped the aristocracy of Europe and sought to rule the country. They got their quietus.
The cotton lords of the East number about the same, and they too are becoming so puffed up, conceited and domineering that congress cringes more abjectly to them than it did to even the slaveholders. The time is coming when they must get their quietus likewise.
This government was made for the whole people and not for a favored few.
