Announcement Comes as New Deal Opposes Early Bonus Payment
CONGRESS WILL MEET THURSDAY AT NOON
WASHINGTON, Jan. 1. (UP).
Intimations today that President Roosevelt will ask congress for four billion dollars for relief, assurance that the New Deal will [fund] public works coincided with the [announcement to] oppose immediate payment of the soldiers' bonus.
The bonus issue is scheduled for early vote in congress, which convenes Thursday noon. President Roosevelt will oppose the measure. Three presidents preceding him have been unable to control the bonus vote.
