Full Text

The Winchester Republican states that "the Grand Jury, sworn for the county of Clarke, reported to the Court, that after mature consideration, they had determined it was not expedient to enquire into the subject of the issuing and passing small notes, checks, &c. believing that the necessity of the case, and the state of the currency, justified a resort to them." So we go.—Gen. Jackson took "the responsibility" of ruining the best currency the country ever had, and now a Grand Jury feel impelled to 'take the responsibility' of rendering void a law which is solemnly given them in charge, from a consideration of the public distress, produced by his lawless acts! Alas, how long are the evils of Mr. Ritchie's predicted "curse to the country" to continue upon us? We fear they are not to be of a day.
