Paul Herring, deputy U. S. Marshal here for several years, is reported as having been chosen by the Democrats of the Third Division for U. S. Marshal, replacing James Patterson who has resigned.
In an unofficial conversation with Stan McCutcheon Democratic chairman for the division this week, Commissioner Anna Mae Vokacek was informed by him that Mr. Herring apparently had the lead in the balloting by party committee members of the division, with only Cordova unheard from. Cordova, formerly Mr. Herring's home, was expected to cast its votes for him.
Mr. McCutcheon told Mrs. Vokacek that he planned to wire the results of the balloting to Delegate Bob Bartlett, upon whose recommendation the president appoints the marshal.
Mr. Herring is currently in Anchorage.
