Middlebury College.—Professor Stoddard has resigned his Professorship of Languages in Middlebury College, on account of ill health, and is about to resume his former residence in Northampton, Massachusetts. We are pleased to learn that Professor Post, of Illinois College at Jacksonville has been elected to fill the vacancy. We also understand that all prospect of an union of the Vermont Colleges is at an end as the corporation of Burlington College have recently declined any further negotiation upon the subject. This is not a little singular since proposals of union were first made by Burlington, and the grounds assigned for breaking off the negotiation were all as well understood before its commencement, as at the present moment.
