In families where there are young children, Norman's Chalybeate Cough Syrup should be always kept. For sale by W. G. Morris, Moline, Ill.

THE DAUGHTERS OF REBEKAH.

"O, woman! lovely woman! nature made thee To temper man: we had been brutes without you."

Last evening, at about the time that graveyards begin to yawn, and sepulchres discuss the advisability of giving up their dead, friend Cutter invaded our sanctum, saluted us in military style, rallied Jones and ourself, and marched us off on some mysterious expedition, the final terminus of which we guessed not of. We landed in a state of bewilderment in the splendid hall of the Odd Fellows of Rock Island, where the staid members of this ancient order were wreathed in angelic smiles, and surrounded by a bright galaxy of stars of the first magnitude in the presence of the tried and true daughters of Rebekah. The latter had carried the lodge by surprise. What the programme was to be was for some moments a problem. This was quickly solved, however, by Mrs. S. B. Stoddard, who stepped gracefully to the front, and delivered a better speech than her husband ever made in his life. (Who says women don't know enough to vote?) The objective point of her remarks was the presentation to the society of a unique and richly embroidered hanging basket, which was received by Past Grand E. D. Sweeney, at the bidding of Mr. Eckhart, N. G., and which will ever remain one of the most charming ornaments of the hall of the lodge. That ceremony over, the ladies invited the entire assemblage to an ante-room where they were further surprised by a luxurious collation of delicacies and viands, which were dispatched with exceedingly great gratitude and gusto. May Rebecca's daughters be plentier than autumnal leaves in Vallombrosa, with shadows absolutely determined to never grow less!
