Full Text

A few days ago a New York paper contained an item in its Washington correspondence, that Ashley of the Toledo, Ohio, District, was a candidate for Governor of Wyoming. To-day we are informed that a special to a Chicago paper states that Gen. Campbell, late of Schofield's staff, will be appointed to the position in question. As Chairman of the Committee on Territories, Ashley so strongly opposed the organization of this Territory, that we didn't think it possible that he could either obtain or accept the position. The dispatch on this subject to-day would indicate, the nominations were to be made soon; probably next week.
