High School Notes

Miss Sutton did guard duty at noon this week. She served hot cocoa and soup to those who stayed for lunch.

The Seniors had a "sweet time" at Maurine Spear's home Friday night in the form of an old fashioned taffy pull.

Final examinations were taken by all the High School students Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of last week. Although many declared beforehand that they were "scared to death" no one has been reported among the missing.

Report cards showing the result of the examination and the term's work were sent to the parents, Monday.

The Seniors gave the program, Friday morning. Every number was enjoyed and the part taken by Lawrence Gross deserves special mention.

Hazel Dotson, a former student of our High School has entered the Junior class. She left here in her Freshman year and has been attending the High School at Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, since then.

The football boys are resplendent in their new purple and old gold sweaters presented by the Athletic Association. The boys in turn gave their faithful little mascot a sweater of the same color. None is prouder than he is of this well earned trophy.

Rev. Hale delivered an eloquent lecture on the life of Abraham Lincoln in connection with some slides illustrating various events of his life.

The new Camp Fire composed largely of High School girls received its charter this week. Miss Della Unruh is guardian.

January 10th, several Hays doctors vaccinated the children of the Public School at the High School building. The older students were not "afraid" but the chalky faces and tottering footsteps of some as they emerge from the room of torture belied their words.

The dental examination and vaccination has wrought a spirit of fear and suspicion among the little ones. When a Sunday School missionary visited the primary room a few days after the ordeal a little girl was seen weeping bitterly, upon questioning the cause of her distress, she said, "Teacher is that man going to hurt us kids."

The basketball season opened last week with three victories for the High School team. Ellis, Quinter and Wakeeney went down to defeat. We are particularly jubilant over the conquest with Wakeeney. This is the first time that we have won from them, since the days when Coach Carmen played in the Hays team with Filer, Chittenden, Brumitt, Cole and Wilson.

Daily Thought.
Mind and body are not to be separated where real beauty exists. Should there be no great intellect; there will be an intellectual instinct, a grace, an address, a naturally wise amiableness.
