Clair Graham, injured in the sinking of the Cambria, was discharged from St. Mary's hospital late yesterday and went to his home. Engineer Stephen Gaskell's condition is improved and it is expected that he will leave the hospital before night, it was said.
Asserting that the Cambria, which sank off Port Washington as a result of a boiler explosion, was federal inspected two months ago and found to be in A-1 condition, Capt. F. W. Van Patten, inspector of hulls in the eastern district of Wisconsin, announced late yesterday that his office was not contemplating an investigation of the accident.
If a probe were to be made, orders to that effect would have to be received from Washington, he said. It was considered doubtful by Van Patten whether an investigation would result in any valuable findings since the evidence lies 100 feet below lake level, the exact spot not being known.
W. A. Collins, inspector of boilers under Van Patten, repeated his chief's announcement of no investigation.
