FORREST CITY, Ark. - Members of the Shelby County Dental Society were feted by Dr. J. Emerson Burke, with a Dental Clinic Demonstration and movie here last Wednesday night.
The clinical demonstrations, covering the most difficult cases of Exodontia, was widely heralded by the attending dentists as a scientific discovery that will probably revolutionize present methods that are now being used in Dental Operations.
Scores of prominent dentists drove in from distant points of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Tennessee, braving the steady torrential downpour of rain that started in the early evening and lasted well into morning, to witness the Dental Clinic Demonstration which may well serve as a forerunner of National Negro Health Week.
Lack of adequate space to accommodate such an immense crowd forced Dr. Burke to shift the demonstrations from his elaborate and well equipped office located at 117 E. Broadway, to his former location at 103 W. Hill St., where an improvised dental office was set up.
The program began with presentation of a Technicolor movie by L. L. Levy, Field representative of the Dudley Research Company of New York City, depicting extractions by the use of an "Impactor."
After the movie, Dr. Burke demonstrated six phases of dental operations, using Nitrous Oxide Anesthesia in all extractions. His first case was the extraction of seven extremely decayed teeth from an eight year old boy.
