This Body of Divines, commenced their Annual Conference to-day, in this place. Its members have been collecting, since Saturday, and the examinations of applicants for the Orders of Deacon and Elder, have been going on for the last two days. The Reverend Bishop James O. Andrew of Georgia is in attendance and appears to be in excellent health. Many of our citizens remember his eminent abilities as a presiding officer and his powerful pulpit efforts, during his stay among them, at a former Conference in 1841. It was in his person that the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, felt itself aggrieved a few years since in the General Conference, when the Northern portion of the Church attempted to thrust him from office, because he held slaves in a State where emancipation was forbidden, and which unrighteous proceedings, resulted in the adoption of a Plan of Separation from its troublesome neighbors. Our citizens have generously thrown open their doors for the accommodation of the men of God, and doubtless every proper effort will be made to render their visit to our town pleasant and comfortable. These devoted men come up from every section of the country, from the mountains to the seaboard, and appear to have enjoyed general good health, notwithstanding, many, have spent the year among swamps and rivers in the low country, and we are gratified to learn that not a single death has occurred in the Conference since the last annual sitting.
